Ravidya Burrowes, Ph.D.
Academic Record:
Dr. Burrowes is the Founder and Managing Director of emc2. Dr. Burrowes (then
Maharaj) obtained a doctorate in Geology (University of the West Indies) in 2000 after
completing a programme of research on the Quaternary sedimentology and
palaeontology of south-western Jamaica. This research focused on re-constructing the
Recent geologic and climatic history of the region based on evidence from the
sandstone and coastal formations. Dr. Burrowes also holds a Master of Science
Degree in Physical Geography (1992, Kings College, Strand, University of London) and
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Geography and Geology (1991 - Mona,
University of the West Indies). During her academic career, she was awarded several
scholarships, including: the UWI Postgraduate Scholarship (1993-95), the Overseas
Development Agency Scholarship (shared programme with University of London - 1991-
92) and Trinidad and Tobago National Scholarship (1988 - 2nd in the Modern Studies
Group). She was awarded the Edward Robinson Postgraduate Prize for her research in
Geology in 1995/6, and was awarded the McMillan Prize for the Best Geography
Dissertation in 1991. In 2000 Dr. Burrowes was awarded a grant to attend the
International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP) Workshop in Bonne.

stratigraphy and basin architecture of the sandstones of the Yellow Limestone Group in
the Central Inlier of Jamaica. Additional projects included research on Beach Erosion in
Negril and Natural Hazards in the Dolphin Head,Hanover, Jamaica.
